12 Days Uganda – Rwanda Wilderness to Nyungwe, Gorilla Trekking, Lake Bunyonyi, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Primates, etc
This great 12 days Uganda – Rwanda wilderness starts and ends in Kigali and lets visitors see chimpanzees and birds in different habitats and trek chimps in two parks in Rwanda and Uganda. Each park has its own special features.
Day 1: Arrival-Kigali
You will be met and warmly welcomed by our Safari/Driver guide on your arrival at Kanombe Airport. Greet and transfer to Kigali. For those arriving earlier an excursion to Kigali city (optional) can be arranged. This includes a visit to a genocide memorial and a visit to the local general goods market and the craft centre. Overnight at Hotel chez Lando or Mille Collines Hotel (L, D).
Day 2: Kigali – Butare – Nyungwe Forest National Park.
After breakfast, depart for Butare the second-largest city of Rwanda after Kigali and is regarded as the intellectual city of Rwanda. It hosts the National Museum, and several academic (University) and research institutions. On your way to Butare, you will visit Nyanza (currently Nyabisindu) the former King’s palace (mu Rukari) and the seat of the feudal monarchy. The palace has been reconstructed to its 19th-century state and shows a traditional dome that can be compared with Kabaka’s palace of Buganda. You will visit the National Museum there, which, is one of the well-set-up if not the finest ethnographic museum of East Africa. It’s a good source of information on the cultural history of Rwanda and the region. Overnight and dinner at Nyugwe Lodge or Gisakura Guest House (F/B)
Day 3: Nyungwe Forest
You will go chimp tracking and birding. There are different beautiful trails available and the superb waterfall trail of Gisakura is probably the most rewarding. The hiking time is 2 up to 3 hours and is a very enjoyable hike accessible to everybody! If you missed the Angolan Colobus, you can have another try near to the tea factory where another troop is hosted. Nyungwe Forest is the only place in Africa where troops of 300 black-and-white Colobus monkeys (Angolan Colobus) can be seen jumping in the trees! A spectacular sight! Day 4: Nyungwe Forest
Take a morning guided nature walk in the forest to see a variety of wildlife and some three hundred bird species found here. After your afternoon lunch break, visit the hot springs in Rugarama. Return late afternoon for overnight and dinner at Nyungwe Lodge or Gisakura Guest House (F/B)
Day 5: Nyungwe – Parc National des Volcanoes
Return to Kigali and proceed to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. [Approximate driving time: 6 hours] Overnight and dinner at Hotel La Palme/Virunga Hotel/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (F/B)
Day 6: Parc National des Volcanoes
After your morning breakfast, drive to ORTPN Park headquarters ready for a briefing by a ranger guide(s) about the greatest Gorilla experience ever. Our driver/guide will drive you to the slopes of one of the Virunga volcanoes for your Gorilla trekking. After the trekking, lunch at your hotel or at Ruhengeri. The afternoon is dedicated to relaxation and sightseeing around the lodge/ hotel. Overnight and dinner at Hotel La Palme/Virunga Hotel/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (F/B)
Day 7: Parc National des Volcanoes -Kisoro in Uganda
Begin your day with a cup of African tea ready to track the golden monkeys after the trekking, lunch and proceed to Kisoro Uganda side. Dinner and overnight at Travelers Rest Hotel or Kisoro Tourist Hotel (F/B)
Day 8: Lake Mutanda- Lake Bunyonyi
Begin your day with an early morning drive to Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda for a guided nature walk in Gahinga and visit the natural, beautiful-looking Lake Mutanda, surrounded by the volcanoes is much rewarding. Lunch in Kisoro. Thereafter, proceed to Lake Bunyonyi for an evening scenic view of the most beautiful lake in the region. Dinner and overnight at Bunyonyi Resort or Bunyonyi Overland Resort (F/B)
Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi -Queen Elizabeth Park
Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Park, game viewing and birding on the way. Lunch on arrival. Afternoon game drives in search of the big Five. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Ihamba Safari Lodge (F/B)
Day 10: Queen Elizabeth Park
Early morning Chimpanzee tracking inside the jungles of Kyambura gorge. Afternoon boat cruise birding on Kazinga Channel for relaxing on the lake rich in many bird species. Dinner and overnight at/Mweya Safari Lodge or Ihamba Safari Lodge (F/B)
Day 11: Queen -Back to Rwanda
Take a morning drive back to Kigali as you enjoy the beautiful scenery of winding landscapes and green vegetation. Border crossing from Katuna side. Evening relaxation at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Chez Lando/ Mille Collines Hotel (F/B)
Day 12: Kigali City Tour-Departure
Dedicated to shopping around Kigali town, for those who missed an excursion of Kigali, take a half-day city tour visiting the genocide memorial, local large markets and different craft centres. After lunch, proceed to the airport for your evening flight back home.
End of 12 days Uganda – Rwanda wilderness
