About Ngamba Island

Ngamba Island, Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established in 1998 for the care and welfare of entrusted animals while conserving as far as possible the ecosystem of the island.

At Ngamba Island, activities include the welfare of individual captive chimpanzees entrusted to its care and the long-term management of a sanctuary for confiscated individuals that cannot be returned to the wild.  Intervention to assist individuals in the wild when deemed necessary, conservation education of the general Ugandan public with particular emphasis on chimpanzees, ecotourism, community participation, capacity building through training, and building viable national, regional and international partnerships on chimpanzee conservation.

Day 1: NGAMBA ISLAND

After early breakfast, take a visit to the chimpanzees’ island! Entebbe and take a boat ride (23 km) from Entebbe to Ngamba Islands. Upon arrival at Ngamba Island, you will be greeted by the duty caregiver of the Chimpanzees and then after you will be able to view and photograph these fascinating apes in their natural environment from only a few metres away! In the afternoon, you will take a boat ride back to Entebbe mainland and return to your hotel for dinner and overnight. End of Service
The package includes a return transfer from Kampala; transfer by speed boat inside Lake Victoria, entrance fees, Lunch at Ngamba Island, and entrance to UWEC but excludes any other personal items.
